HELPFUL HINTS TO USING THE INTERNET

Welcome to the new world of the Internet.  We understand that the Internet can be confusing to the beginner.  This guide is designed with you in mind to give you helpful hints to make our service the most enjoyable experience we can provide for you.
GETTING STARTED

Think of your Internet Service Provider (ISP)-(in this case, EvenLink), as the fuel that powers your "car" to the new superhighway. 

The Browser (Netscape, Internet Explorer, etc.) you can picture as the "car" you use to travel down that highway.

Your e-mail address is much like your U.S. postal address.  It has several parts that help your mail program (Outlook Express, Netscape Messenger, Eudora, etc.) deliver your messages.

TECHNICAL & CUSTOMER SUPPORT

Before calling technical support please do the following:

· Restart the computer. (Click on "start", "shut down", and "restart", "ok")
· Double check you are using the correct user name and password (They are case sensitive)
· User names are always in all lower case (Don't include @evenlink.com in the username)
· Check that you don't have "caps lock" key on
· Make sure all cords, including phone cord, are plugged in from computer to proper outlet

If still not working, PLEASE call 988-1800 locally or 1-866-311-5900 and have the following information ready for technical support:

· Know your user name and password
· Be at your computer 
· Write down any error messages you have received
· Know what operating system your computer is running on (i.e. Windows 95, 98, ME, MAC OS)
· Know which browser, e-mail programs you are using
· Know what type modem you have.  To find this, click "START", "SETTINGS", and "CONTROL PANEL".  Double click on "MODEMS". Choose "MODEM" and it will bring up a screen that names your modem.
· Make sure you have the software that came with your computer.  Especially if you are using Windows 95 or 98 or Windows Millennium and have that software on hand as you may need it while we troubleshoot your problem.
